Award Winning Designer

Jody Shilan is an award winning landscape designer that has been creating beautiful landscapes for over 30 years. From his education in landscape architecture, through his experience as a landscape contractor and now as a full time landscape designer, Jody works with both contractors and homeowners to create designs that are beautiful and elegant, yet highly practical and affordable. His extensive knowledge of construction, combined with his attention to detail and unique sense of style allows him to create “one of a kind” landscapes that truly stand the test of time. Never at a loss for creative solutions, his philosophy has always been, “it’s not a question of can it be done, but rather, which way shall we do it.”

Green Industry Consultant

As a former design/build contractor, Jody has designed, sold and managed millions of dollars worth of highly profitable installation work. He did this by developing unique systems or “Standard Operating Procedures” (SOP’s) for the design/build process, “from first call to final install.” Now, as a “Green Industry Consultant,” he partners with design/build companies who want the same success and are ready to take their companies to “the next level.” No textbook theories here. These procedures are based on real life, hands-on experience and can easily be taught to any employee or company. Not only that, they have been developed from working with some of the most respected and successful design/build companies in the region. You will not find anyone who has a better understanding of the systems necessary for the success of a landscape design/build company from the perspective of business owner, designer, sales person, estimator, project manager, foreman and laborer.

Education and Affiliations

He received his bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture (BSLA) from Cook College, Rutgers University and earned his masters degree (MLA) in Landscape Architecture form the University of Massachusetts. Firmly believing in “giving back”, he has been a professor in the horticulture department at Bergen Community College (BCC) for 9 years, where he also serves on the Board.

In addition to this he is a Director at the New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association (NJLCA), a Member of The Profession Landcare Network (PLANET) DBI Subcommittee and a Board Member of the New Jersey Chapter of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD - NJ).
